Sourdough Bread Pizza

Remember those Stouffers french bread pizzas? I remember eating that to snack on after school. Just heat them up in the oven for a few minutes and you've got yourself a personalized pizza on a baguette. I remember I used to pick off the pepperoni pieces and save them for last.

Anyway...I (sort of) had a craving for them recently. To delve back into my teenagehood of memories from after school snacks. I decided to revisit that memories by making myself a sourdough bread pizza. Since i had given up meat for lent, I was lucky enough to have a can of sardines in the pantry. And a can of fire-roasted diced tomatoes.  The sardines covered the "peppeproni" part. Also, since bread is so common in most households, you got no excuse not to make pizza anytime you want.

Makes 4 pizza slices

Sourdough Bread Pizza

4 1-inch thick slices sourdough bread
1 c diced fire-roasted tomato
1 c shredded cheese - your choice
extra virgin olive oil

optional topping:
sardines
pepperoni
sausage
veggies
mushrooms

Preheat your oven to to 375˚F

Lay the pieces of bread on an ungreased baking sheet. Sprinkle some of the cheese, then the fire-roasted tomato and any additional topping you desire.

Baked in the oven for 5-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bread is crisp.

Ooh - this looks yummy! I like that you put it on slices of bread, rather than the length of it.

Mmmm I'm loving the use of sardines and I am all about reminiscing about after-school snacks!

Craving is the key driver for food ingenuity! Actually, for me it was always some sort of sweet topping on bread: cinnamon sugar, sweetened condensed milk. Now, I'd totally go for this quickie pizza!

As someone who hasn't had much luck making good sourdough pizza crust from scratch, this is a perfect solution! I love shortcuts especially when they make sense like this. Thanks, Jenn.

I love the idea of a pizza on sourdough bread, sounds so good! I've been doing a lot of pizzas on naan bread lately and now will try one with the sourdough bread!

That's funny how you save the pepperoni for last, that's what I do with pepperoni too! I have to admit I'm not a huge sardine fan, but I can never say no to pizza :)

Did you eat them one at a time or put them together like a sandwich? GREG

Nice, I bet the sourdough added a great dimension to it.

Easy easy pizza solution. Plus, you can take care of a pizza crazing without having an entire pizza in front of you!

OMG, used to LOVE those Stouffer's pizzas! Especially the pepperoni. :) Had forgotten all about them! I'm now a devout Amy's frozen pizza follower.

I remember those amazing Stouffer's pizzas! They were so delicious and full of horrible ingredients that I loved back then!

Super creative Jenn!

The boy and I often do this as a quick dinner and is a very good way of going through leftover scraps in the fridge.

This is such a great blog!!! Really makes me hungry just reading and looking at the pictures : ) I recently baked my first loaf of bread and it was incredible!!! I used a starter my friend told me about. It's from Sourdough's International and now I have to spread the word! I loved it. Definitely going to order more when it comes the time.
